Short term labour hire to manage seasonal peaks

For many businesses, summer is the busiest time of year – Christmas, the added business pressures of staff taking annual leave and public holidays playing havoc with staff rosters and availability. While a busy sales period is obviously a great way to end the year, it’s important that you have staffing plans in place to cope with the increased demand and decreased permanent staff availability. One way to cover this peak time is to employ casual workers, on a short-term, temporary basis. The advantages of using labour hire include provision of a flexible workforce to meet peaks in demand, enabling your business to maintain a core workforce with the capacity to fill up staff gaps that meets your work and production schedules and reduces costs.APG Short Term Labour Hire provides labour hire and recruitment services to both regional and metropolitan areas throughout Australia. Housing industry recovery highlights trades skills shortages

Tradespeople across almost all categories in residential construction throughout Australia are set to benefit from the recovery in home building activity, a key housing industry economist says. Figures released earlier this month showed both new home sales and residential building approvals at their highest levels in several years. Housing Industry Association chief economist Harley Dale says tradespeople across almost all categories within the industry can look forward to a better year ahead.Dale went on to conclude that the the effect of the recent upturn in housing starts will initially be most evident in areas such as carpentry, bricklaying and general building, and will then flow through to finishing trades such as painting and plastering, with the improvement in these areas gaining further momentum.

The challenge of the Australian manufacturing industry

The Australian manufacturing sector has traditionally been a major local employer, offering long term job security and a challenging workplace. However the manufacturing sector is being challenged by global, structural and cyclical forces that have resulted in over 100,000 Australian manufacturing jobs lost in the past 10 years. Many long-established factories and iconic Australian manufacturers are under pressure and have closed. Business costs are rising and demand is slowing. We have seen the end of local manufacturing by the Rosella brand, G.J Heinz, Golden Circle to name just a few.Manufacturing has declined across the board, from food-processing to metal fabrication and manufacture, textile, clothing and footwear, as well as motor vehicle manufacturing. However there is some positive growth within the manufacturing sector particularly in the food and beverage sectors and agriculture for example. One of the challenges faced by highly skilled Australian manufacturing workers such as engineers, manufacturing / production managers, is whether to remain in the Australian manufacturing sector or seek overseas projects in an international market that highly values Australian skills. In fact, the manufacturing sector is finding it difficult to recruit high-calibre individuals as traditional manufacturing positions make way for a different range of skills to support the new Australian manufacturing economy. APG has an impressive track record in recruiting professional, semi-skilled and unskilled roles typically found within the manufacturing and processing sector.APGs extensive recruiting, screening and testing process means we can find you the right person to fit your manufacturing staffing needs. Our many years of success of recruiting for the manufacturing industry stems from our focus on not only on providing candidates with the right skills and experience but also on matching candidates with the culture of your organisation. Our networks of qualified candidates are ready to go to work where and when you need them.
