'Tis the season to be working

November through to the end of January, for most, is the time to wind down, reflect on the year that has been, and look forward to the start of the New Year. For others, it is the perfect time in which to seek casual employment and earn some money over the holiday period.

There may be many reasons that a business is looking for workers. Regular staff go on holidays, or their business simply gets busier over the Christmas period. Casual or contract jobs tend to become more plentiful over this period.

So what industries will be looking to increase, or cover, their workforce over the holiday period? While most will know that retail is always one of the industries where work can be found during this period, there are also a range of other areas worth considering.

Warehousing
From factory hands through to supervisors, administration to forklift driving, the warehousing industry has a wide variety of roles for people of varying skill levels. Also, because many companies now have
e-commerce, they tend to require people that can assist in the warehouse over the Christmas period, in order to meet demand.

Office/ Professional
Many companies are now trading internationally and therefore need to meet the demands of the overseas market, as well as local. This requires many businesses to remain open over the holiday period, and the need to cover the gaps left by staff taking annual leave. Receptionists, personal assistants, administration and office support are just a few of the areas that will require temp or contract staff to help relieve the burden over this period.

Retail
The pre-Christmas and New Year periods are the busiest for retail, and many businesses put on extra staff to cope with the hectic pace of the season.
